Give Two Years Of Super Nutrition For Kids

FUNDED March 25 2013 – Thank You!

PIH_RUTF_Baby_33094According to the World Health Organization, malnutrition contributes to more than one third of all child deaths, although it is rarely listed as the direct cause. Instead, children weakened by malnutrition become susceptible to common diseases. It is also a condition as easy to overcome as peanut butter on a spoon.

The creation of Ready-to-use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) has given healthworkers around the world a revolutionary way to treat severe malnutrition safely and quickly. The RUTF is a ready-to-use paste which does not need to be mixed with water. The product, which is based on peanut butter mixed with dried skimmed milk and vitamins and minerals, provides sufficient nutrients for children to make a rapid and full recovery from malnutrition. It can even be stored for three to four months without refrigeration, even at tropical temperatures.

PIH_RUTF_Manufacturer_33094Partners In Health contracts with businesses in countries where they work to produce high quality RUTF. This approach not only improves access to treatment but also strengthens local economies.

PIH was founded in 1987 to deliver health care to the residents of Haiti’s mountainous Central Plateau region. Since then, PIH has expanded to provide healthcare to the neediest children around the world. Through service, training, advocacy, and research, and by establishing long-term relationships with sister organizations, PIH is bringing the benefits of modern medical science to those children most in need of them and serving as an antidote to despair.

GreaterGood.org’s contributions to Partners In Health’s programs to save children worldwide are made possible by the support of donors, shoppers, and clickers at The Hunger Site.
