Plant 1,000 Trees For Butterflies

FUNDED July 15 2013 – Thank You!

Millions of Monarch butterflies fly up to 2,000 miles annually from the northern U.S. and Canada to the forests of central Mexico.

For years, their resting places have been shrinking, as deforestation left the remaining stands of pines surrounded by plowed fields and cutover lands.

Forests for Monarchs is making a difference. Since 1997, they have helped local landowners plant than 6 million trees, and the resulting new forests are greening up the mountainsides as well as helping to restore watersheds. Communities are seeing the well being of their families improve as well as witnessing the butterflies return to places where they have not been seen for a decade or more.

By the end of the 2012 planting season, Forests for Monarchs had successfully planted 375,000 trees (Pseudostrobus Pine, Greggii Pine, and White Cedar) to expand these Monarch butterfly overwintering sites. Another 175,000 were planted to protect Michoacan’s Highland Lakes watershed.

Your click today will add 1,000 trees to this important project.

The protection of elephants begins at home. Studies have shown that without community support, it is nearly impossible to stop poaching. Our partner in Kenya, Wildlife Works, employs local villagers to work as rangers. These dedicated men and women patrol over 500,000 acres, protecting wildlife as they migrate between two large national parks—Tsavo East and Tsavo West. As expert trackers accustomed to the terrain, the rangers are especially qualified to protect Kenya’s endangered elephants.
