Send 10 Diabetic Kids to Camp

FUNDED May 7 2013 – Thank You!

CampAngels_52080Inspired by their son’s enjoyment of a weekend camp for children with Type 1 diabetes, Don and Diane Rung started Camp Angels to give other diabetic children that opportunity.

For the last decade, Camp Angels has enabled Type 1 diabetic children from financially challenged families to have an enjoyable, customized camp experience.

Every year, they receive amazing thank you letters from families. It is clear from these notes that the camp helps them set the worries aside and let their children just enjoy summer as a kid should:

“I have three amazing children. All three have Type 1 Diabetes, and between them live with another five acute and chronic illnesses. Every new diagnosis from the last five years brings its own worries, lifestyle changes and experiences…Camp Angels, what a perfect name for your organization. You are truly Angels in our lives. Thank you so much for helping us.” – Keri Turner

“I want you to know that the smile on my son’s face, the fun he has had and the lifetime of memories that are created that week are because of you and your generosity! I cannot thank you enough!!” – Sherry Howard

“At camp Midicha I felt like I belonged. I felt like all the other campers were my brothers and sisters…For the first time since my diagnosis, I didn’t have to explain my glucose meter or my injections. No one questioned why I needed snacks during the day or why I needed my blood sugar checked several times overnight. At camp I was able to be me.” – Kennadi

Give Puerto Rico’s Animal Shelter Workers the Training They Need: Completed March 4, 2015

78,000 daily clicks funded this project – thank you!

Despite being a US territory, the animal sheltering system in Puerto Rico is decades behind its counterpart in America. Less than 45% percent of dogs and 30% of cats that make it to shelters are ever adopted, and there are hundreds of thousands of street dogs and cats in this small island chain that will never get a chance at adoption in the first place. An incredible group of students reached out to One Picture Saves a Life on behalf of all animal welfare groups in Puerto Rico asking for a special training workshop catered to the specific challenges that shelters on the islands face. You can help make this workshop a reality. It will improve the image of rescue and adoption and save more lives.
