Animal shelters across the country are overflowing with homeless pets who are all waiting for a loving home.

Animal Care Centers (ACC) of NYC has several locations in New York filled with cats and dogs who deserve to find their special someone. It is a great day when one pet gets adopted and a huge celebration when over 70 pets find homes in one day.

New Yorkers formed a line in Union Square to meet adoptable pets at Petco's 25th Birthday Block Party. The shelter shared what an "incredible" day it was for the shelter pets and staff who were able to witness all the happy matches.

"51 kittens, 11 cats, and 9 dogs were adopted at Petco's 25th Anniversary Block Party! It was an incredible day where we had about 1 adoption every 5 minutes, and constant celebrations and smiles were seen throughout Union Square that whole day," shared the ACC along with a video of excited pets meeting their new families.

A poodle mix named Dust Bunny was the first adoption of the event and the crowd cheered as the sweet boy wagged his tail in excitement.

He was also the first to get a pet-friendly slice of Petco's 7-foot-long celebration cake.

The shelter was also given a $100,000 grant from Petco to continue their life-saving work. Gianni went on stage to accept the check alongside ACC's CEO, Risa Weinstock and captured the attention of an adopter.

Petco thanked everyone who attended their 25th celebration and announced that over 250 pets were adopted that day from various shelters. "NYC, you really know how to show up for animals in need— we couldn't have done any of this without YOU!"
