Woman Shows Off Fungus Nails After Beautiful Manicure Gone Wrong
A woman has taken to TikTok to warn others about the fungus she developed from wearing acrylic nails.
Acrylic nails are a popular choice for women around the U.S. but there may be some potential issues with those nails that are not so well known.
TikTok user @cleancookfun shared a now-viral video that shows what happened to her nails after she removed her acrylics.
As it turns out, an unsightly green fungus had developed on her actual nails under the acrylics.
"Your sign not to keep infilling and just give your nails a break," she wrote in the text overlay. "Feel so manky," she added in the caption.
According to Healthline, "Fungal infections are a relatively common complication of getting acrylic nails...In most cases, these infections aren't serious and clear up with home remedies or with antifungal medications."
Healthline further explains that poor application or maintenance can cause the fungus to grow. They wrote, "If [acrylic nails] become loose or aren't put on properly, moisture can get trapped between them and your fingernails. Fungi thrive in moist environments and may start to grow around the trapped water."
It's important to go to a reputable nail shop and practice proper maintenance to avoid getting fungus under acrylics. It's not something I knew was a risk, but now that I do, I'll be much more careful with my fingernails!
