Shelter Dog Marie Hopes It Will Be Her Turn For A "Freedom Ride" Soon

Patience is a virtue, and 5-year-old shelter dog Marie has been more than patient. For the past 140 days, she has watched countless dogs find their forever homes and patiently waits by her kennel door for her chance.

As the days go by, she wonders if it will ever be her turn...

Humane Society of Broward County in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, shared that the American Staffordshire Terrier Mix is nicknamed "Mermaid" because she is ready to make a splash with you. She loves to play and be close to people but will need to be the only dog. However, she does get along with children and possibly cats.

The sweet pup has been at the shelter the longest and is waiting for that special moment when a staff member walks over to her kennel and places the red sticker that reads, "I'm adopted!!"

A video of Marie's soulful eyes searching for the person who will give her a chance was recently posted on TikTok. "This beautiful girl just wants to be close to you. She rubs up against her kennel door to say hi and loves to cuddle when you go in. She’s not a fan of other dogs, but hopefully you’ll love her anyway," wrote the shelter.

@humanebroward Marie 💔 Will Marie ever get her turn? 🥺 5-year-old Marie has been at our shelter longer than any other pet waiting for a family to give her a chance! This beautiful girl just wants to be close to you. She rubs up against her kennel door to say hi and loves to cuddle when you go in. She’s not a fan of other dogs, but hopefully you’ll love her anyway 🙏 Her adoption fee is sponsored ❤️ #fyp #foryou #foryoupage #dog #dogsoftiktok #adoptme #shelterdog #rescuedog #blackdog #florida #fortlauderdale ♬ original sound - Humane Society Broward County

Her adoption fee is sponsored, and anyone interested in adopting her can take her for a trail sleepover. She has spent nearly every holiday at the shelter and is starting to lose hope. Marie deserves a family of her own, so please share her story.
