Stepsisters. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, am I right?

I’m just kidding! Stepsisters don’t always act like those two sisters from Cinderella.

But, hey, we all have our issues even with our own siblings, so there’s nothing new with having little petty fights sometimes. One day you’re getting along just fine, then one day you ignore each other, and then repeat. Pretty normal stuff.

Now I don’t know if this is what happened to this Redditor’s daughters or if it really is a Cinderella kind of thing, but let me share OP’s story.

“AITA for getting my daughter a hotel room entirely for herself after her stepsisters made her sleep on the floor?”

Quick background story first.

OP visited his hometown with his family to attend his dad’s funeral. OP’s daughter, the youngest one at 16, has 2 stepsisters, 19 and 17. The family has 2 rooms to share: one for OP and his wife, and the other one for the three sisters to share. OP said that the girls' room had one large bed that was able to fit all his daughters.

At 11 PM, OP got a call from his youngest, Shiloh, and she was crying. She told OP that her stepsisters insisted that she sleep on the floor.

OP went to check out what was happening in his daughters’ hotel room. When he got there and asked Shiloh’s stepsisters why they wanted her to sleep on the floor, they just shrugged.

"It's better this way...we're more comfortable this way.."

OP didn’t mention how he reacted to this disturbing confession, but how would you feel if your children confessed that they feel okay with ostracizing someone, much more their own stepsister?

Not discussing any further with his daughters, OP just arranged for Shiloh to have her own room. The two older daughters didn’t like this.

“Both looked upset but didn't say anything, but they must've called their mom because she was awake when I got back and started arguing with me about giving Shiloh an entire hotel room for herself.”

OP explained what happened, and his wife just told him that he wasted money since Shiloh could’ve “sucked it up for one night on the floor” and further accused OP of playing favorites between their daughters.

An edit was added to this post that answered some questions. OP said that it was his wife that made the hotel reservation. One room for all three children so as to “not stir any drama” and save money, OP said. OP also mentioned that his wife didn’t expect Shiloh to sleep on the floor. So what I’m getting here is that, basically, all that hotel drama was because of the two older daughters.

OP ended his post by saying that he’s known his stepdaughters since they were little. They were family.

Now I’m just an outsider here. What OP provided in his story isn’t enough to really judge the kids. Maybe it was a one-time thing, maybe they were also grieving, I don’t know.

What I can answer, though, is that OP is definitely not an a-hole. He was emotionally distressed when it happened, and he found an easy solution to a problem, however costly it may have been.
