Conservationists Discover Huge American Eel On The Gulf Coast Shores

You aren't alone if you've never heard of the American eel.
According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, there aren't many of those eels left, as they are an endangered species. It is also why we are interested that one was recently found washed up on the Texas Gulf Coast.
Photo: This eel was a rather interesting specimen because it was as large as they get. It came in at 4 feet long, and after it was found, a video was posted on Facebook.
The eel was found by Jace Tunnell, who said this is as big as it gets. He found the eel on Mustang Island, adding that it was massive.
Photo: The conservationist explains in the video that typically, these creatures are tiny and used for fishing bait. To find an eel this large is truly extraordinary.
Female eels tend to be larger, so it is thought that this was a female specimen.
Photo: The American eel lives in rivers, but they are endangered because the waters are threatened due to the building of dams. The man-made dams affect the lifecycles of fish that go up and down the rivers, disrupting the eels.
