Burglary Suspect Stops To Pet Family Dog Before Fleeing The Scene
Golden retrievers are great pets. They're incredibly sweet, friendly and playful. They tend to be happy-go-lucky, even when faced with adversity. But if you're looking for a guard dog, they might not be the best choice. After all, they're notorious for being friendly to everyone, including strangers!
Security footage from a burglary recently came out that demonstrates this perfectly.
In the video, which was shared by the San Diego Police Department, you can see a golden retriever happily accepting attention from a suspected burglar!
The police department took to Facebook to ask the public's help in identifying the suspect. In the clip, you can see the suspected burglar in an open garage. He begins to take off with one of the bicycles in the garage when the family dog comes out!
The man spots the dog, and while some burglars might take off as fast as possible at the sight, this guy actually turned back into the garage to give the dog some attention!
He pets the dog and baby talks her. He even asks where her family is and yells for the dog's dad to come get her. It's pretty amusing and endearing.
The police department explained, "On July 15, 2023, at approximately 10:40 pm, an unknown white male suspect entered a garage in the Pacific Beach neighborhood [of San Diego]. The individual made off with a 2019 black Electra 3-speed bicycle valued at approximately $1,300. This isn't your average bike; it's distinct, featuring '8-ball' caps on the tire valves, an '8-ball' logo on the frame, and a rear wheel frame marked with a checkered black and white pattern.
"In a rather peculiar turn of events, as the suspect was about to make his escape, he paused to pet the household dog who had entered the garage."
