A Twice Surrendered Cat is Awaiting a Better Future, Thanks to You

More than 6 million dogs and cats enter animal shelters each year, and the cost of food and medical care for them can be staggering. It doesn’t always leave room in the budget for comfort items that help pets relax and let their personalities shine through while they wait for forever homes. Your support helps change that, and it’s made all the difference for one overstimulated cat.
Cheeto recently found himself back at Ruff Start Rescue for the third time, after being returned twice. The problem? Overstimulation that often leads to biting.
The rescue says, “He’s an affectionate boy who gets so excited during interactions that he sometimes struggles to regulate his emotions. When he becomes overly enthusiastic, he may cross his threshold and nip.”
With your support, we were able to send an item to the shelter that helped: lickable treats.

These treats, along with comfort and enrichment items like blankets, toys, and collars and leashes for walks, are some of the items for which we fundraise. They help get pets cozy, happy, and to put on their true personalities for would-be adopters.
Treats can help with this because they provide something to smile about and can help with training.
Of Cheeto’s training, Ruff Start Rescue says the treats have “been a great tool in helping Cheeto manage his excitement. By placing small amounts of the treat in different locations, we encourage him to search for them, providing both mental stimulation and a positive outlet for his energy. Since he’s highly food-motivated, these treats keep him engaged and focused, allowing him to enjoy enrichment without becoming overstimulated.”
With your support, Cheeto is well on his way to becoming a bit more easygoing and finally finding that forever home! If you’d like to provide more comfort items like treats to shelter pets, click below!
