Couple Discovers Beehive Hidden In Home After Honey Starts Dripping Down The Walls

Bees play a critical role in the ecosystem thanks to their ability to produce honey, a golden, sweet liquid made from the nectar of flowers.

Conservationists have been fighting hard to keep bees around for generations to come, and most people seem to recognize the important role they play in life.

However, I think most of us would also agree that while we love bees and want them nearby, we don't necessarily want them in our homes.

When 41-year-old Kate Dempsey and her husband moved into their home in Folkestone, Kent, they noticed a few bees in the area but didn't think much of it. However, that all changed when they noticed something odd happening to their house.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Kate said: "It all started in the really hot summer last year. We noticed black sticky stuff coming down our bedroom wall. It got to the point where we couldn’t ignore it anymore. I smelt it and tasted it and it was honey."

Kate and her husband wanted to get to the bottom of the issue, so they began pulling up floorboards and trying to see the full extent of the bee situation.

She said, "We pulled up this massive six-foot honeycomb. When we were in the middle of [clearing it out], we woke up one morning and the room was full of bees."

According to the Manchester Evening News, the couple decided to handle the situation on their own after being quoted thousands of dollars for a professional to deal with it.

It was a sticky mess and definitely an unexpected situation, but we're glad it all worked out in the end. On the bright side, it seems the family got some free honey out of the deal!
