Couple Married 72 Years Renews Wedding Vows For Valentine's Day
Getting married is a big day for many people, but there are some key anniversaries that might feel even more important than the actual wedding day.
For many people, making it to a 25th wedding anniversary is a huge deal, while others take it a step further by making it 50 years.
A couple in Long Island, however, is shattering the stereotypical wedding milestones by celebrating their 72nd wedding anniversary.
According to ABC 7, 93-year-old Morty and 91-year-old Alice renewed their wedding vows over Valentine's Day after being married for 72 years.
The couple held the vow renewal surrounded by family and friends at their home, a senior apartment complex.
While Valentine's Day is often a time that couples show love for one another, the day holds extra meaning for Morty and Alice since they met at a Valentine's Day party back in 1948.
Almost exactly three years later, the two married on February 4th, 1951 and have enjoyed a rich and loving life together ever since.
Naturally, people want to know their secret to a lasting marriage and Morty and Alice were more than happy to share their opinions.
According to ABC 7, Alice claims the key to a happy and lasting marriage is ensuring that your spouse is always your best friend. Morty agreed, saying it's important to grow together instead of apart during life's many phases and challenges.
Alice added that happy and lasting relationships require both people to have a strong sense of individuality and be willing to blend together and work together.
