In a quiet cul-de-sac, a yellow Labrador named Emmy has become a daily source of joy for her neighbor, Linda Rose. Their story, shared by The Dodo, is a heartwarming example of how deeply animals can bond with the people around them. Since early 2024, Emmy has made it her mission to visit Linda Rose every single day, creating a routine filled with tail wags, nose boops, and shared affection. For anyone who loves stories about neighbor dogs, this one is especially endearing.

Emmy’s dad, Russell, first noticed the unique connection when they moved next door to Linda Rose. From their initial meeting, it was clear that Emmy had chosen Linda as her favorite human outside the family. According to Russell, the visits began immediately and became an essential part of Emmy’s daily routine.

“Emmy has been visiting Linda Rose every single day since January of 2024,” he shared in a video interview. The visits quickly became a highlight for both dog and neighbor, with Linda often greeting Emmy at the door with enthusiasm and open arms. But on days when Linda didn’t realize Emmy was waiting outside, the Labrador would return home disappointed.

Russell explained that Emmy would sometimes sneak over and patiently wait at the door, only to leave unnoticed. Later, Linda would review her doorbell footage and express her regret. “Oh my gosh, I can’t believe I missed Emmy. I hate when I miss Emmy,” she would say. The disappointment was mutual—Emmy had learned to recognize the phrase “she’s not home” and visibly reacted when she heard it.

Determined not to miss another visit, Linda Rose took matters into her own hands and upgraded her doorbell to a more dog-friendly version. The new setup features a button placed at nose height, allowing Emmy to ring it herself. This simple yet thoughtful upgrade ensured that Emmy could always announce her arrival without needing to bark or scratch.

“She will sprint through the house, across the yard, across Linda Rose’s yard, and she will go to her front door, and she will press a nose-height doorbell with her nose until Linda Rose answers the door,” Russell explained. If Linda takes too long, Emmy has no problem pressing it multiple times—her persistence matched only by her excitement.

The upgraded doorbell not only solved the issue of missed visits, but it also added a charming ritual to their friendship. Emmy now arrives wearing soft boots on her front paws to avoid scratching the door, and waits patiently, her nose nudging the bell and her eyes scanning for her friend. When the door finally opens, her tail wags uncontrollably and she dashes inside with uncontained joy.

While Emmy spends time with Linda Rose and her husband, Mark, Russell remains outside, giving them space to enjoy each other’s company. “They play with her. They buy toys for her. And she just loves being in there so much that when it’s time to come back, it takes both Linda Rose and her husband, Mark, to lure Emmy outside with treats to come back to see me,” he said.

Emmy’s bond with Linda Rose stands out even among the many friendly faces in the neighborhood. Though she loves everyone, no one compares to Linda. The feeling is mutual—Linda considers herself lucky to have been chosen by Emmy. “Emmy is such a sweetheart, and I’m so proud she chose me to be her best friend,” she told The Dodo. “I absolutely love seeing Emmy every day.”

This story of a neighbor dog and her favorite human is more than just cute; it’s a reminder of the simple, genuine connections that can brighten our lives. I found this detail striking: a small gesture like installing a dog-friendly doorbell can deepen a bond and create moments of shared happiness. For Emmy and Linda Rose, it’s not just about a daily visit—it’s about being present for each other, every single day.
