Deaf And Blind Dog Digs For Treasure Using Her "Superpowers"
When you have a dog in your family, it doesn't take long to learn that they have special powers. Those powers can be the love that they show or perhaps a unique trick that they learn on their own.
Such is the case with Nellie. As a cocker spaniel, she has all of the adorable traits of the breed, including the pink nose and cute markings. She even has two different colored eyes.
According to GeoBeats Animals, Nellie is a sweet dog that loves playing and her curiosity sometimes gets the better of her. When you watch her playing in videos or in person, it might not dawn on you at first that she is blind and deaf.
Nellie was born blind and deaf and the breeder dumped her and her sister, both because they had the genetic condition that caused the problem.
Fortunately, Secondhand Hounds was there to assist. They are a rescue that helps dogs get placed with foster homes, and any dog they rescue is going to be placed successfully.
When they first got Nellie, they knew that she needed special care so she was considered a Fighter Fund Foster.
The great news is, both Nellie and her sister were placed in lovely foster homes. In fact, Nellie's foster mom said it was love at first sight.
A blind and deaf dog that was never able to see or hear the world around them is in a unique position. Everyone was concerned that would be afraid of the world, but she just thinks it is business as usual.
Suddenly, they realized that Nellie was just as normal as any other dog. Interestingly, another foster dog, Lily, seemed to realize she needed some special help and was protective of her.
It took a little while but Nellie was able to memorize every square inch of the house. Suddenly, she was running full speed, finding her food bowl and even learning to play outside.
Other dogs and people sometimes leave behind "treasures" and Nellie has a lot of fun finding them. She has a nose unlike any other, and she uses it as her superpower.
When Nellie isn't busy running around and having fun, she is with her foster parents, enjoying a good cuddle. She absolutely loves it when people hold her.
After posting Nellie's story online, people started commenting about how well she was doing. They like her get-up-and-go and the fact that she isn't afraid to hang out and love a little too.

I love to write and it keeps me busy. I've been working online, full time since 1999. When you can't find me at the keyboard, you'll find me getting as much as I can out of life. I enjoy living simply, playing games, visiting the beach, and spending time with my family.
