Animal Shelter Seeks Forever Home For Dog And Goat BFFs
An unlikely pair of friends got their happily ever after and are being adopted together, thanks to the Wake County animal Center in North Carolina.
Wake County Animal Center shared in a press release that the Cinnamon the goat and Felix the dog were surrendered to the shelter on March 13, with their former owning citing an inability to care for them any longer.
Shetler staff immediately realized the dog and goat were best friends, as they were seen eating, playing, and sleeping together.
While many shelters would simply adopt each out to the first qualified application, the Wake County Animal Center decided to do its part to keep the friends together, sharing adorable photos of the couple on Facebook:
In a press release, Wake County Animal Center Director Dr. Jennifer Federico explained: "Goats are social animals, and so are dogs, so when they're put together, it makes sense they would find friendship."
Federico went on to say, "In many cases of interspecies friendship, the species are not normally seen together, and sometimes, one is of a species that ordinarily preys on the other in nature. Whatever the reason for these two bonding, it's clear what would be best for their well-being is to keep them together."
Felix and Cinnamon were not put up for public adoption. Rather, the shelter put out a plea to other rescues to step up and find these two a fitting home.
Thankfully, it wasn't long before a rescue partner stepped up and found these two a home together. The Wake County Government shared on Facebook, "The story of the heartwarming and once-homeless odd couple, Cinnamon and Felix, now has a happy ending – the inseparable goat and dog will soon be living out their years together in the grasses of a local Johnston County farm."
They noted that Felix and Cinnamon would be arriving at their new forever home by the end of the week.
It's not always easy to find a suitable home for an animal in need, and finding a home to take two animals can sometimes prove impossible - especially when one is a farm animal, like a goat. It's so nice to see that Felix and Cinnamon found a forever home to live out their days!
