New Survey Shows How Dog Moms and Dog Dads Differ
While pet owners across the board are so fond of their pets that most consider them a member of the family, are there any differences in how men and women relate to their dogs? According to a new analysis, there appear to be a few.
Tractor Supply Company, a rural lifestyle retailer that sells a variety of pet essentials, recently conducted a survey of more than 1,000 dog owners across the United States to see how dog moms and dog dads each approach being pet parents.
One difference was in the most popular breeds for men and women. For women, the top spot went to Labrador retrievers, while the most popular for men was the German shepherd. However, both men and women had each of these breeds in their top 5, so there were similarities. Also in the top five for both was the chihuahua. For women, the other two spots in their top five went to shih tzus and poodles, while for men, it was bulldogs and golden retrievers.
Another way men and women were found to deviate from each other was how often they spoke to their dogs, with 35% of women saying they chatted with their dogs more than they chatted with their family and friends, compared with 21% of men.
The treats may be more plentiful for pups with dog moms, too, as 71% of women said they let their dogs sample their food, a larger percentage than men who reported doing so. Speaking of treats, though, there were some commonalities when it came to pampering pups. Most respondents of all generations said they celebrate their dogs’ birthdays and gotcha days, with the highest rate – 81% - found in Gen Z.
At least two-thirds of all generations surveyed also said they take their dogs on vacation. To see which places are the happiest to accept those doggy travelers, click here! You can also read more about the differences between dog dads and dog moms at this link.
