Neglected Cockatoo Starts New Life With People Who Love Him

When Alex was looking through his local classifieds in Sydney, Australia for a guitar amplifier, he didn't realize that his life was about to change for the better.

While browsing the classifieds, he noticed an unrelated recommended ad for a cockatoo bird.

According to GeoBeats Animals, the bird's owners didn't want to care for him anymore so they listed him for sale.

Alex shared that the photo of the sulfur-crested cockatoo was so sad looking and he couldn't help but inquire about the poor thing.

Apparently, the bird had lived with his family for quite some time but he was totally neglected through it all and didn't even have a name!

Alex decided to purchase the cockatoo to give him a better life, something that's not recommended from an animal welfare perspective because purchasing from an irresponsible seller only encourages them to neglect and sell more animals. But in Edgar's case, it worked out just fine.

Alex shared with GeoBeats Animals that he only planned on keeping the cockatoo, who he named Edgar, for a week or so before taking him to a foster center for birds. However, Edgar won his way into Alex's heart and he didn't have it in him to say goodbye.

Edgar took months to start to come out of his shell. It was clear that he hadn't spent time outside a cage before and didn't know how to play or truly be a bird!

Alex was so patient with Edgar and committed to giving him the best life possible. While Edgar may have had a rough start to life, he can live out his years knowing he'll be in good hands.
