Mother Elephant Protects Her Calf From Sneaky Crocodile Hiding Below The Surface

A video captured the incredible moment a mother elephant protected her calf from a large crocodile hiding beneath some murky water.

The mother and calf are standing near the edge of the water when suddenly, the mom senses something isn't right. She plunges into the water and starts stomping around, clearly going after something.

Moments later, you can see the massive crocodile emerge from the murky water and walk away, seemingly unharmed but not willing to mess with the elephant calf.

While crocodiles are generally known to eat things like insects, fish, small frogs, lizards, and crustaceans, they can also eat small mammals when given the chance. According to Latest Sightings, "Crocodiles are opportunistic hunters and have been known to prey on baby elephants."

Susanta Nanda with the Indian Forest Service shared a video of the encounter on Twitter with the caption:

"The extent to which elephants can go in protecting their calves is mind boggling. Here is a small incidence. The Crocodile had to surrender."

Since being shared on Twitter, people have been blown away by the mother elephant's quick action!
