Guinness World Records Recognizes Flossie As The World’s Oldest Living Cat

I wonder what it would feel like to live for 120 years…

The world’s oldest living cat is 27 years old, and that is equivalent to an impressive 120 human years old.

The Guinness World Records officially recognized Flossie as the oldest living cat, and she definitely doesn’t look her age.

Born on December 29, 1995, Flossie lives in the UK with her owner, Vicki.

Flossie may be old and deaf already, but the senior cat is in good health, although her eyesight isn’t as good as it used to be.

The cat lives a good life. She began as a stray near a hospital with other kittens, and a group of workers there decided to adopt the kitties. She was with her original owner for 10 years and was only rehomed since her owners sadly passed; then she spent another 14 years with her original owner’s sister until they, too, passed away. Flossie was taken in by her second owner’s son, and she lived with him for almost 3 years.

The owner’s son felt like he couldn’t take care of Flossie properly and made the choice to give her what she needed by giving her up to those who knew what to do to take care of such an old cat. At the age of 26, Flossie had to say goodbye to her family once again, and she was handed into the care of Cats Protection, which is the UK’s leading cat welfare charity.

"It wasn’t an easy decision...He sought our help when it was in Flossie’s best interests. Responsible cat ownership is when someone thinks about an animal’s needs above their feelings," Cats Protection said.

Just imagine that the cat had been with that family for all her life, so it must have been a really hard decision to let her go for her own good.

Now, with her newest owner, Vicki Green, Flossie is still as loved as ever. Vicki is an experienced senior pet mom.

“I was looking to adopt a senior cat and went online on Cats Protection, and she happened to be the first senior cat that came up, and I just felt like she was perfect.

“I adopted her on the sort of basis that this is her retirement home. And she gets whatever she wants to make her last years the best that she’s had. I just want to make sure she’s having a good life,” said Vicki.
