Mom Wins $2 Million Lottery The Day After Her Daughter Beats Cancer

Have you ever heard the expression, when it rains, it pours? Most of us use the expression to speak about how difficult times tend to pour in one after the other.

Then again, if you are Geraldine Gimblet, it seems as if it is pouring good luck. After all, she recently purchased a lottery scratch-off ticket in Lakeland, Florida, and won $2 million.

Obviously, that was good news, but it wasn't the first good thing that happened to Geraldine. Just a day before, her daughter had finished her last chemotherapy treatment.

In a press release, her daughter said: "The day before my mom bought this ticket, I rang the bell and walked out of the hospital after completing my last treatment for breast cancer."

It was even better news because her mother had already spent her life savings on medical expenses.

After winning the lottery, the Florida Lottery commission shared a picture of her and some of her biggest fans on their Twitter account.

According to the press release, she decided to accept a lump sum of $1,645,000. Her daughter and granddaughter made the trip with her to pick up the money.

After the Florida lottery chief, Reggie Dixon, heard about the amazing news, he also decided to step in and have his picture taken with them as well.

Geraldine almost didn't buy the $10 scratch-off ticket. It was her favorite lottery ticket, and she had stopped by the Pipkin Road Beverage Castle only to be told they had sold the last one.

She decided to ask him to check again because she likes doing the crossword lottery tickets. When he found the last one, she bought it right away.

There have been no plans for the money shared by Geraldine, and she has only talked with lottery officials at this point.

Still, many people offered their congratulations on Twitter, both for the win and to express their appreciation for being an unselfish mother.
