A Rescue Puppy Comforts and Cheers Up a Dog Who Lost His Sister
"Grief, and the whirlwind of emotions that come with it, is something we have all likely felt at one time or another, whether it’s after the loss of a friend, family member, or beloved pet. What’s harder to know is whether grief, as we understand it, is something that our canine companions feel when they lose a fellow four-legged friend. While we can’t just ask them, we can observe them – and most evidence seems to indicate that, yes, dogs experience grief in some form. In fact, it’s likely that they feel all of the emotions that go along with grief when they lose both human and canine companions during their lives," according to the American Kennel Club.
After losing a close animal friend, a grieving dog may exhibit one or more symptoms from the following:
- Withdrawal from people and other animals
- Reduced appetite
- Lethargy and desire to sleep most of the time
- Abnormal aggression or destructive behavior
- Eliminates anywhere at home
- Calling out to the animal friend he lost
- Searching for his lost friend in various areas at home and in other places that it used to frequent
- Clingy behavior toward owner
When a dog named Wyatt lost his sister Mavis, he went into deep mourning. He stayed inside a closet and hardly went out.
His fur parents were also very sad for him. According to them, Wyatt has always been sensitive since he was a puppy. He tends to love other dogs so much, and Mavis was his sister and best friend.
After seeing Wyatt grieving for Mavis for more than a week, his fur parents thought of adopting a new dog to cheer him up and to be his new friend. They went to an animal shelter in the Mojave Desert to get Lenny, a new pup. But they were also careful about introducing a new dog to Wyatt because he may not welcome Lenny. Adopting a new dog is not always the answer to another that's grieving.
But to the relief and delight of Wyatt's fur parents, he responded with joy and excitement upon seeing the new puppy. The two dogs quickly bonded like real brothers!
Since they didn't have stuff yet for Lenny, Wyatt's fur parents made Lenny wear Mavis's harness and other belongings. They fit Lenny, and it felt like Mavis was with the family again.
When Mavis was alive, both she and Wyatt loved outdoor adventures like mountain climbing and going to the beach. This time, it's Wyatt and Lenny sharing the fun under the sun!
Happiness has finally returned to their home sweet home! Thanks to Lenny the new puppy and Mavis's sweet memories!

For more than 20 years now, I’ve been devoting my heart, energy, and time to fulfilling my dream, which – many people may agree – is not among the easiest aspirations in life. Part of my happiness is having been able to lend a hand to many individuals, companies, and even governments as an investigative journalist, creative writer, TV director, and radio broadcaster.
At home, I spend my free time learning how to cook various cuisines. Tiramisu, chocolate mousse, and banoffee pie are my favorite desserts. Playing with our dogs, Mushu and Jerusalem, is also a special part of my day. And, of course, I read a lot – almost anything under the sun. But what really makes me feel alive is meeting people from various walks of life and writing about their stories, which echo with the tears and triumph of an unyielding spirit, humanity, and wisdom.
