Former Homeless Woman Wins $5 Million In Lottery Scratch-Off
I know it's so easy to fall into a feeling of despair when you're down on your luck, but there is always a way out. We don't stay down forever, and you never know when you're going to find your lucky break.
Back in 2017, Lucia Forseth was as down on her luck as possible: She was experiencing homelessness. Now, six years later, she won't have to worry about that at all.
Forseth, who lives in California, had the luckiest break when she purchased a scratch-off ticket that ended up giving her a $5 million prize.
According to 3 News Now, she recounted that she'd bought the ticket at a Walmart in Pittsburg, California, while getting an oil change on her car. At first, Forseth thought she'd only won a free ticket. Then, it sunk in that she'd actually won the grand prize! 2023 has been whirlwind of a year for her.
As Forseth explained according to the outlet, "Six years ago, I was homeless. This year I am getting married, getting my associate degree, and won $5 million. You never think you have a chance to win it. It is just random. Being homeless just six years ago, I never thought it would happen to someone like me."
According to the California Lottery, the lotto creates more than $8 billion in annual revenue, but it pays out 66% of that revenue in winnings. Roughly three-fourths of the lottery's revenue is made up of the scratch-off games.
The lottery shared that the top prize for their scratch off games can actually go as high as $20 million. While that might sound tempting to go an buy all the scratch cards possible, the odds of winning a $5 million grand prize in a scratch off game is 1 in 3,088,854.
What do you think of her turn of luck? Have you ever been lucky and won something in a lotto? Let us know!
