Historic Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida as a Category 4 storm late Thursday evening bringing deadly storm surge, heavy rainfall, and damaging 140 mph winds. 

It is the strongest hurricane to hit the panhandle area on record. Countless homes were destroyed as cities along the Gulf Coast of Florida are still assessing the damage as the sun rises.

Storm surge records were broken in many areas that were just made last year by Hurricane Idalia. 

Residents are still being urged to shelter in place as roads are flooded and numerous trees and power lines are down.

Helene weakened to a tropical storm but continued to wreak havoc as she made her way into Georgia and the Carolinas. 

The danger still continues as life-threatening flash flooding occurs and landslides are expected across portions of the southern Appalachians, according to the National Hurricane Center. 

As of early Friday morning, 4.2 million homes and businesses are without power in the Southeast. Countless people and pets are displaced and need our support.
