Rescue Husky Separated From Her Pups Mothers Tiny Bunnies Instead
There are times when animals form bonds with each other against all odds. Such was the case with Belle, a Husky that was living on the streets of Minnesota.
According to GeoBeats Animals, Belle could weather the cold temperatures well because she is a Husky, but that wasn't the case with Winston, a blind Chihuahua.
Fortunately, the two formed a bond, and Belle protected Winston from the cold. It is a beautiful story, but there is more to it.
Belle and Winston were taken in by local animal control officers on a number of occasions. In the past, Belle was used for breeding, and the breeders would claim her. She would then escape to live on the street.
The last time they were brought into the shelter, nobody came to rescue Belle and Winston. That is one No Dog Left Behind (NDLB) got involved.
NDLB is a Minnesota-based rescue organization, whose volunteers find abandoned or neglected dogs and provide them with homes. One of the foster parents, Stephanie Easley, was chosen to care for these two dogs.
She shared with GeoBeats Animals that when she went to pick up the dogs from the facility, she felt that they were aggressive. Anytime anyone went near to Belle, she would growl or snarl.
At first, Stephanie and her husband did not let the children come near the dogs. They would work with Belle after the children had gone to sleep.
It took some time, but eventually, Belle was ready to meet the entire family. She was calm around the children, and they decided to adopt her.
One thing they quickly learned about Belle was that she had strong maternal instincts. As a breeding dog, she would have the puppies taken away from her almost immediately, but her maternal instincts would not disappear.
These instincts showed up on a number of occasions, including when they brought some bunnies into the home. She saw them as her own babies, and she would growl if you tried to touch them without asking.
Any small animal that was in her vicinity would become her baby. She would keep them safe, and she wouldn't let anyone come nearby in the case of the little rabbits.
Belle is an amazing dog. You can learn more about her in this video:
