As the Hottest Months Arrive, Help Unhoused Veterans and Their Pets
Michelle Milliken
While the number of unhoused veterans has fallen by more than 55% over the past 15 years, an estimated 32,882 veterans still experienced homelessness in 2024. That includes nearly 14,000 who experienced unsheltered homelessness, which involves sleeping in places like parks, streets, and abandoned buildings. You’ve long helped us support veterans in such situations, and you can provide further aid at an event later this month.

Our partner Greater Good Charities (GGC) is set to participate in a distribution event for veterans, including those experiencing homelessness, at a Stand Down event in Worcester, Massachusetts, on June 13.
GGC works with the VA to prioritize distributions in areas with high veteran poverty populations, and this event is no different, as the Worcester area has a poverty rate of 19.8%.

This upcoming Stand Down event is the largest veteran-focused resource fair in central Massachusetts, and it connects veterans with assistance programs available to them, including employment and training services, health and wellness services, housing resources, legal services, benefits counseling services, and counseling and substance abuse referrals.
There will also be a variety of free items given away, and that’s where GGC comes in. They’re partnering with the organization 4 Others Inc., which provides hygiene resources to people experiencing homelessness and those in transitional or veterans housing. Together, they’ll be distributing hygiene supplies, as well as pet supplies for those who need extra help caring for their furry friends.

We’re able to work with GGC to provide these necessities - and comfort items - to veterans and their pets, thanks to your clicks, trivia participation, shopping for a cause, and direct donations. Thank you! If you’d like to help with this upcoming event, or others in the future, click below!
