Kayaker Rescues Baby Raccoon Stranded In The Ocean
A baby raccoon managed to hitch a ride to safety thanks to a kind-hearted kayaker who saw the little critter struggling in the water.
Steve of Key West Kayak Fishing was enjoying a day on the water when he spotted something unusual in the distance.
He shared on YouTube that he thought the object was a stick at first, but then he noticed fur and suspected a dog. A closer examination revealed it was actually a baby raccoon!
In the video, Steve commented on how surprised he was to find a raccoon in the ocean and he suspected the animal could use a ride. Thankfully, the raccoon didn't fight back and happily allowed Steve to scoop him onto the kayake.
Steve explained in the video's description, "Figured I would pick him up and drop him off at the nearest island. I guess he was exhausted because within a couple of minutes, he was sound asleep and I couldn't wake him up."
The raccoon refused to budge when it was time to exit the kayak and return to land, so Steve carried on with his day, with the baby raccoon in tow.
In the end, he was able to safely get the raccoon on Big Pine Key island where he thought the animal would be able to survive and do well. He said, "I went on with my day and ended up taking him back to the main island. Big Pine Key is a wild deer sanctuary with not a lot of people and cars so I think he will be happy there."
