Long-Stay Shelter Dog Treated to Day Away from Shelter
Andrea Powell
Shelter life is tough. The lonely days spent waiting for someone to pick you and watching as other dogs and cats find their person. This has been Sissy's life for many months.
The two-year-old Labrador mix was taken in from another shelter. She has been waiting a long time to find a family of her own, and staff and volunteers don't understand why she hasn't been adopted. With a huge smile and an even bigger heart, this loving dog just wants to be near people.

Her caretakers state, "Sissy is affectionate, gentle, and happiest when she’s close to her people. While some dogs are obsessed with toys, Sissy would much rather spend her time soaking up attention, getting pets, and simply being by your side. She is gentle, affectionate, cuddly, and just an all-around great dog."
So, a volunteer decided she deserved a vacation. Sissy left the shelter for the day and spent it doing all the things she loves. It started with a car ride and some much-needed outdoor time soaking up the sun.
@humanebroward She’s one of our shelter’s longest residents…and we don’t understand why? 🥺💔 Sissy is a 2-year-old, 50-pound Lab mix with the sweetest little soul 💞 She came to us from another shelter, and it didn’t take long for everyone here to fall in love with her sweet and easygoing personality❤️ Sadly, Sissy hasn’t had any luck getting adopted, so to cheer her up, our wonderful volunteer treated her to a special day out of the shelter 🥹 This lovely girl is truly the total package ❤️ Sissy is affectionate, gentle, and happiest when she’s close to her people. While some dogs are obsessed with toys, Sissy would much rather spend her time soaking up attention, getting pets, and simply being by your side. She is gentle, affectionate, cuddly, and just an all-around great dog 🥰 She already knows “sit” and “down,” and she has such a calm, loving personality. Whether you are looking for a walking buddy, a cuddle buddy, or a loyal best friend to keep you company, Sissy is your girl. 🙏 If you’re searching for a sweet, affectionate dog with a gentle spirit and lots of love to give, Sissy may be the perfect match for your home 💓 If you would like to meet our adoptable pets, please complete the pre-adoption application on our website and then stop by. She never wandered far from her new friend, except for the occasional sprint around the yard. Her smile said it all.
They ventured to a local pet store where Sissy received a treat as she pranced around the store in an "adopt me" vest, hoping to catch the eye of an adopter.

She returned to the shelter with hope in her heart as she continues to wait for her special someone. Share her story to help her find a forever home. Check out all the adoptable animals here.
