Man Gets Something Unexpected When He Tries to Return Dog Food

When most of us hear stories about retailers, particularly online retailers, the stories are not always positive. In many cases, they contain complaints and examples of poor customer service.

It is nice to hear something good every once in a while, and that's exactly what we have for you below. It started out with a very sad event but ended in something nobody ever could have expected.

In October 2019, a little pug named Bailey passed away. She was the pet of Joseph Inabnet and lived in Falls Church, Virginia.

A Special Dog With Special Needs

Bailey was a special dog, but she also had special needs. Prior to the time she died, Joseph was ordering prescription pet food from Chewy on a regular basis.

In case you aren't familiar with it, Chewy is an online pet supplies retailer. They sell a variety of items for dogs and cats, including the prescription food that Bailey was eating.

Joseph didn't know what to do with a bag of food that he had not yet opened. Considering the fact that it was $70 a bag, he thought he would return it for a refund.

After reaching out to Chewy to explain the situation, he got a response that he wasn't expecting. He then went online and shared the good news and positive review on Facebook.

In the post, he explained how he received a card and painting from Chewy.com in the mail. The card was even handwritten, which is rare in today's world.

The words of sympathy contained on the card really touched the hearts of many pet owners. It said:

"Pets come into our lives, leave paw prints on our hearts and we are forever changed. We’re sending lots of love and positive thoughts. If you ever need anything, we’re always here."

An Unexpected Gift

They didn't stop with a card. Chewy also commissioned someone to do an oil painting of the dog's face.

Joseph isn't sure, but he thinks he may have uploaded the picture to his account at Chewy at some point in the past. Regardless, it was a beautiful gesture.

As far as his return was concerned, Joey also explained what happened on Facebook. He asked Chewy if he could return the $70 unopened bag of prescription dog food.

They told him to donate the bag instead, and they returned his money.

What a beautiful example of great customer service.
