Good Flights Is Headed To Maui To Bring Emergency Supplies And Rescue Shelter Pets
The wildfires in Maui have destroyed 2,000 structures - 86% of them being residential homes, claimed the lives of over 100 people and countless animals, and caused thousands to evacuate the island.
Search-and-rescue teams are looking for survivors in the incinerated town of Lahaina as firefighters continue to tirelessly battle the wildfires. People and pets have lost their homes, all their belongings, and even family members.
They need a helping hand.
Greater Good Charities is teaming up with Southwest Airlines and Lucky Dog Animal Rescue to ship emergency food and supplies to Maui and evacuate shelter pets in need.
On August 17th, the plane filled with essential supplies and food will land in Maui and give support to the people and pets of Maui, but that's not all...
On the 18th, shelter pets from overcrowded shelters will board the plane and head back to the mainland to find loving homes. This will give the homeless dogs and cats a second chance at a forever home and make room for injured and lost animals from the wildfires.
Many of the shelters were already at capacity or over before the fires started. Burned animals are already arriving at shelters in need of medical care.
