Rapper Meek Mill Paid Bail So 20 Incarcerated Women Could Spend The Holidays With Their Families

Rapper Meek Mill brightened the holidays for 20 Philadelphia women by paying their bail so they can spend the holidays at home.

The women were incarcerated at the Riverside Correctional Facility in Philadelphia.

Five of the women were released on Saturday (Christmas Eve), and 15 more will be released in the coming week.

Mill made the donation for their bail through the Reform Alliance, a non-profit dedicated to fighting inequity in the criminal justice system by transforming probation and parole.

Reform shared about the generous act on Instagram, adding they Mill also donated enough to gift each of the women a gift card purchase groceries or gifts for the holidays.

In the post, they quote Mill saying:

"For families impacted by the criminal justice system, the holidays can be an extremely challenging time. No one should have to spend the holidays in jail simply because they can't afford bail, and no child should be without their parents during this time if we can do something about it. I'm grateful for the opportunity to help these women be with their families and loved ones during this special time of year."

Bail is a system that benefits the wealthy and hurts the poor. If two people are being held for the same crime and the same bail, one might walk free simply for having more money. The person who can't pay bail can miss out on work, family, and social activities among other things. In this case, some women might've missed out on precious time with their families over the holidays.

Thanks to Mill, some families were untied just in time for Christmas.
