Mother And Daughter Earn Master's Degrees And Graduate Together
There are many moments in our life that we may celebrate, but our graduation day is possibly one of the most notable. It typically ranks up there with our wedding and the birth of a child.
There are also times when graduation day means even more to us, and that was the case with Alissa and Elizabeth Meyer. That mother and daughter combo managed to graduate together, each with a master's degree.
50-year-old Alissa Meyer graduated with Elizabeth, 25, from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. They earned Master of Social Work degrees and both had a 4.0 GPA.
This isn't the first time the mother/daughter combo walked down the graduation aisle together. According to a press release from the university, they actually earned 5 different degrees at the same time.
They earned a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, as well as three associate degrees from Central Texas College.
In the press release, Alissa spoke about how amazing this felt for her and called it a "super proud mom moment."
Elizabeth is also happy she spent her college years with her mother and said her classmates also appreciated having her around.
In speaking about her mother, Elizabeth called her "my best friend." She went on to say that all of her classmates called her mom.
While attending college, the two lived in a campus apartment and worked together as pharmacy technicians. They have been inseparable for a long time, including the time when they had to live in a hotel after Hurricane Harvey destroyed their home.
So, what is in the future for this dynamic duo? They plan on taking a break for a year and then heading back to Our Lady of the Lake University to start their Ph.D. in leadership studies.
I love to write and it keeps me busy. I've been working online, full time since 1999. When you can't find me at the keyboard, you'll find me getting as much as I can out of life. I enjoy living simply, playing games, visiting the beach, and spending time with my family.
