Dog Rescuer Takes In Newborn Alpaca Who Was Rejected By Mom

Lee Asher has been running the The Asher House in Estacada, Oregon, since 2020.

Over the past two-plus years, he's rescued and adopted plenty of dogs, but he recently introduced a new rescue animal to the pack: a newborn alpaca!

He shared on YouTube that the tiny alpaca was rejected by his mother immediately after birth.

The owners of the farm called The Asher House for help, and Lee couldn't say no. When the newborn alpaca was just one day old, Asher drove over and picked him up. He named the tiny baby Salem after Salem, Oregon.

The farmers said little Salem should survive with Asher's help, but he'd need a lot of socialization and around-the-clock care and bottle feeding. Asher admitted he'd never cared for any animal so young, but he was willing to take on the challenge.

Thankfully, he wasn't in it alone. He had the help of his rescue pack - a group of dogs he'd saved from various situations.

"I'm pretty sure he thinks he's a dog now," Asher joked on YouTube.

A few days after sharing about Salem's rescue, Asher shared an update on Facebook.

He said, "Salem is doing amazing, Teddy has taken him under his wing." Teddy is one of Asher's rescue dogs. The sweet pup is showing little Salem the ropes and giving him the companionship he needs to thrive.
