A Pacific Pocket Mouse May Be The Oldest Living Mouse In The World

It's always interesting when a world record is broken.
Some people try to do it regularly, but sometimes a record is broken because of things that are out of our control.
Photo: Such is the case for Pat, a Pacific pocket mouse that lives at the San Diego Zoo. He is the oldest living mouse in human care at almost a decade old.
According to the New York Post, officials at the San Diego zoo would like Pat recognized for his accomplishment.
Photo: Officially, he is nine years and five months old, and the Guinness World Records has been contacted for acknowledgment.
The New York Post reports that to celebrate the longevity of this mouse, the San Diego zoo Wildlife Alliance will have an event on February 8. They want to honor the mouse, who was named to honor Patrick Stewart.
Photo: They hope that the rodent will also gain a position as a world record at that time.
Currently, Guinness World Records states that a caged mouse was seven years and seven months old when he died in 1985. Since Pat is almost ten years old, he should be a shoo-in for the record.
