Dog in Need Gets A New Hip

Dog in Need Gets A New Hip

Just like humans, dogs can have various health problems, and they need a physician to step in and help. Without that help, the problem is only likely to get worse.

This was seen in one dog when she wasn't using one of her rear legs. The shelter, where the dog lived, contacted Best Friends Animal Society, requesting help.

That local shelter recognized the fact that the dog needed a veterinarian, but they didn't have the means to care for her. Fortunately, Best Friends Animal Society was there to assist.

In fact, that is what that nonprofit organization does. They save the lives of cats and dogs all across America, helping them to find a happy home and giving them the second chance they deserve.

This amazing dog, that they named Cricket, certainly deserved that opportunity. After stepping in to help, they took her to get x-rays and found something that needed immediate attention.

The veterinarian told them that she had a chronic fracture of the left femoral neck. That is the part of the femur that fits into the hip socket.

Due to the severity of the injury, Cricket needed more than just some TLC. There was a solution, and it was offered by a specialist at the Bark City Veterinary Clinic.

That specialist, Dr. Jones, felt that Cricket would benefit from a total hip replacement. After recovery, she was expected to have full function and normal movement.

Dr. Jones also mentioned that if they had waited any longer to get there, it was likely that Cricket would not have qualified for the surgery.

They knew they had some work ahead of them, but Cricket was a good girl, so everything was going well. The foster cared for her and kept her calm so that she didn't re-injure herself after the surgery.

Within a couple of weeks, she had healed well and was already back for the removal of her sutures. She isn't finished healing yet, but the foster is looking after her carefully to make sure the surgery site does not get reinjured.

Not every dog with a broken hip would benefit from this surgery. It's nice to know, however, that kind people are out there who want to help and do what is necessary to make these loving dogs whole again.
