In the post, they wrote:

"In case you missed the good news, there are new baby red wolves! A new litter was born for the Milltail pack of red wolves at Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge in North Carolina. For the second year in a row, mother 2225 and father 2323 have added to the pack!"

They went on to say, "This newest litter, born during the second week of April, consists of three females and two males. The five siblings from the 2022 litter will help the parents with the raising and bonding of this new group of red wolves."

The post included an adorable photo of the tiny new cubs!

According to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, red wolves are "currently listed as an endangered species under the Endangered Species Act of 1973." It was officially declared extinct in the wild by 1980, but conservationists refused to give up.

The USFWS has been working to restore the populations of the red wolf through a targeted recovery program in North Carolina. A Red Wolf Recovery Team was established and red wolves were slowly reintroduced back into the wild.

The USFW said on Facebook, "We're committed to working closely with public and private partners to ensure these charismatic canids endure in the wild for future generations. Remember to keep a minimum of 100 yards or more from red wolves to keep them from habituating to humans."
