A friend stopped by one evening to show us his new puppy, and my 16-year-old daughter had a fit. She wanted one. We found out that he had bought his puppy from the bad side of town, so we went there and bought Boo Boo for $100. She was a full-blooded Maltese.

The fellow I bought her from said she was six weeks old and could drink from a bowl. However, I checked a few days later, and she still had no teeth. In my mind, that put her at around three weeks old.
Anyway, that was eight years ago. My daughter is grown and gone from the house, and she left Boo Boo with Dad.
That leaves just the two of us.
Boo Boo asks to go outside, and she will even tell me when I need to eat. Sometimes she asks to go outside but only walks over to her bowl, grabs a bite, looks up at me while chewing, and then walks back to my desk.
She wakes me in the morning with playful growls and whines until I get up and let her outside, usually around 4 a.m. I go back to bed, but around 6:30 she starts a very low whine. It never gets any louder. She just keeps at it until I get up.
She also loves riding to the post office to check the mail.
One morning around 4 a.m., I heard her barking. She had a different bark this time, so I grabbed a flashlight and went outside.
Boo Boo had a possum, nearly as big as she was, backed into a corner of the yard. Possums can have some pretty nasty-looking snarls.
I looked down at her and said conversationally, “Okay, now go back into the house.”
She simply turned around and went inside.
An hour later, the possum was gone.
Now, every morning, Boo Boo runs around the yard making sure nothing else has made its way inside.
This is her house.
