I had started feeding a large, extremely thin feral ginger tom who was always hungry but would wait for me to leave the food before he would approach to eat.

After a year, he let me touch him. Six months later, I, to my surprise, got the guts to quickly pick him up and drop him in a large airplane pet carrier and into the car before he knew what was happening. I honestly thought he'd died before I got him to the vet. He was so afraid.
But when the vet assistant put him in the cage, he was out like a flash of lightning before she could shut the door, and an alert went out. Doors were shutting all over the place.

I can't believe it's been six years since we've had him inside. He's still a 'fraidy cat, but he's also the sweetest cat I've ever had. He lets a younger, much smaller alpha male Siamese, Zeke (another rescue), boss him around, not to mention the girls (also rescues), tabby Grace and calico Stella.
Oh and he got his name one morning when I tried to get close after feeding him back when he was still a feral. He ran away, and I yelled (for some unknown reason), "Chester, come back!" He stopped, turned around, and meowed at me. Then he took off. Now he comes when I call him.
