Our dog Peaches went over the rainbow bridge in early December, 2024 after being diagnosed with a large mass in her abdomen and being in extreme pain. When we got home, I told my husband that we were going to get another dog.

At the end of January, 2025, I saw a picture of a cute Yorkie mix at the local shelter. I showed his picture to my husband, and he said "Let's go see him."
When we walked into the shelter to see "Junior," the first person that we told which dog we were there to see said "Oh, the little blind dog."
I was apprehensive, but my husband said, "Let's see him."

My husband had had a blind cat previously and wasn't worried about the dog's blindness. We were put in a small room and waited for "Junior" to be brought in. We were told that the previous owners had adopted him the previous July but now couldn't afford the veterinary bills. We were told that he also had had flea dirt and so his fur was a bit patchy.
I said to my husband for us to be quiet and see if he could find us. Junior sniffed around the room, but as soon as my husband said something, this little dog came right over and put his paws up on my husband's knees. My husband was sold on him and I said that I had to think on it. Junior went to a foster for a week.

After talking to the foster mom, I was sold on adopting him and we renamed him Clancy. We took him to a veterinary opthalmologist hoping that it was cataracts, but we were told that he had retinal degeneration and that nothing could be done for him. He does see a little so he learned to maneuver around our house without difficulty. He is petrified of going down steps but since our house is a rancher and has no more than one step to the outside, he does well.
Clancy is smart and cuddly and definitely our velcro dog and I am so thankful that we adopted him. He fits in with my husband and I in that he is a senior, low to the ground, and loves his food.
