Grace was nine years old when she was brought to the shelter by a woman who had gotten her from a friend. She had only kept Grace for two months before surrendering her, saying she worked from home and Grace wanted to be with her all the time. Well, of course she did — she’s a dog. And she’s an Aussie, which are known as “Velcro dogs.”

She had also been free-fed, and Grace weighed 46 pounds when her healthy weight should be around 25. She wasn’t thrilled about the restrictive diet I put her on, but we got her back to a healthy weight.
Grace settled into my house quickly. She already knew how to use the dog door. I discovered she’s very toy motivated, which is unusual compared to my other Aussies, so now there are toys all over the house — but she’s fun. She sings hello, and when I started dating someone two years ago, she quickly took to him.

She can be a challenge. She has some aggression issues, especially if someone tries to touch me at home. She also struggles with separation anxiety, likely because I’m at least her third owner. Camping can be interesting if she has to stay in the camper briefly — she once shredded the screen door. But we work through it.
She’s goofy, devoted, and absolutely meant to come to me. I only adopt seniors, and Grace was clearly meant to be part of my life.
