Meet Kenya. She's only three and yet she rules the entire household!
Our paths crossed when I was a junior in college at UW-Eau Claire. I was a regular volunteer at a local rescue shelter where I was able to pamper all the animals I wanted as a pseudo replacement for missing my fur babies that were back home with my parents.
One day, the shelter received a call from the police station stating that they had rescued a mother cat from the trunk of an abandoned car. This cat had been wrapped in a plastic bag and discarded like trash. While in the trunk, mom had given birth to three beautiful kittens prematurely, most likely due to stress. The kittens were immediately rushed to an animal hospital and hooked up to every machine conceivable to keep them breathing and eating.
After four touch and go weeks, they were eventually transported back to the shelter with their mom. Lance, Mort, Kenya and their beautiful mommy were such fighters!
The first day I walked into the shelter since their return, I knew I had found the newest member of my family! Since their immune systems were so weak and mom was not able to produce milk for her babies, the shelter needed to find immediate homes to prevent the risk of infection. I immediately called my family and informed them of Kenya's heroic tale.
After going through so much in such a short amount of time, she truly deserved a forever home with a family that was going to love her unconditionally.
Three years later, she is by far the happiest, most adorably spoiled kitten ever and has fit in perfect with our family full of rescue animals!
I look back and still cannot believe that someone would ever do this to such a wonderful animal. She has brought our family so much joy over the years, I cannot wait to see what is in store for her future.
Even though the adoption paperwork states that I rescued her that November day, I truly believe that she rescued me right back!
