I was driving on a main state highway one day when I saw a cat lying just over the white line in the lane of traffic. I thought he was dead, but when I looked in my rearview mirror, I saw his tail move. I turned around and went back.

He was still alive, so I picked him up and went looking for his owner, but I could not find anyone. I rushed him to my veterinarian, 40 miles from where I found him. He had a broken pelvis, along with cuts, scrapes, and scratches.

I left him at the vet’s office so he could recover. After I left, my car broke down, and I had to call a tow truck to get home. That was my reward for rescuing him.

I finally took him home and named him Lucky, because he was lucky I came along when I did. Lucky passed away at age 16, but he had a good life with me.
