Kitten Left Trapped in a Car Was Just Moments Away From Life on the Streets

This is our big kitty, Maggie. My husband and I had lost our senior cats, and three years ago, we adopted a Sato dog from Puerto Rico who is an absolute sweetheart.
One of my husband's coworkers, who lives in the inner city, showed him a picture of a kitten popping its head out of a carrier bag inside a car. She had heard crying in front of her house and discovered it was coming from inside the vehicle.
She opened the car door and took a picture. A man came running outside and told her he had lost his apartment because of some illegal activity he had been involved in. He said he planned to let the female kitten loose on the street because he thought she was old enough to survive on her own. Then he jumped into the car and drove away.
My husband and I felt terrible for the kitten, whom the man believed was about seven months old.
Three days passed without any sign of the car. On the fourth day, the coworker's boyfriend called her at work and said the car was back with the kitten still inside. He had spoken to the man, who was once again preparing to let the cat go.
My husband asked him to put the kitten in a box and bring it to their workplace. Instead, the man handed over the carrier with the cat still inside.
We thought we had rescued the sweetest female cat alive until we took Maggie to the vet to be spayed and discovered that Maggie was actually a one-year-old male!
We had him neutered and also learned that he is part Maine Coon. He has grown into the sweetest, biggest cat, and our dog absolutely loves him.
We have tried calling him Magee, but we just can't get away from Maggie.
We don't know how long he lived inside that carrier in the car, but even today, he doesn't like sleeping in the beds we've bought for him or climbing into boxes.
Maggie doesn't want to be confined anymore unless he's snuggling safely in our arms.
