One Easter Sunday, I don't know why, but I had this urge to get on Facebook when I got home after a visit with Mom. I hadn't been on in ages.
I logged on, and there was a request from a girl I used to work with. She wanted to know if someone could take her grandma's cat. If no one took him, he'd go to the shelter. I just knew he be would be put down for being deaf. There was no way I was going to let that happen! Without talking to my husband, I told her if no one else wanted him, I'd take him.
Mr. Meow Meow is the sweetest, most loving cat I know. He loves to explore and has never let his "handicap" keep him from doing what he wants to do. He would climb anything and talk until the cows came home, and he just loves being loved.
About four years ago, we got devastating news. Meow Meow had gone blind. Now he'd lost two of his senses. I was inconsolable. I felt it was my fault. Only after a specialist told me there was nothing I could've done to prevent it, did I feel better.
Did Meow Meow let it faze him? He did not! I can't believe how resilient my Sweetpea is. He goes up and down the stairs by himself and climbs up on the beds and couches. We go outside so he can feel the grass, feel the wind in his face, and get "smells."
He's not the same cat we first brought home. He's less talkative, and you have to be very careful not to startle him. It's been a learning curve for us, but we've all adjusted.
I had people tell me after he went blind that we should put him down. No WAY! Having a disability is not a reason to be put to death, ever! He makes our lives full and I can't imagine living without him.
He's 15 pounds of love and the best thing I've ever gotten off of Facebook! We love him so much. I'm so glad fate made me log on that day!
