Four years ago today, I went to PetSmart with my sister so she could pick up some bags of food for her dogs. I saw that they were holding a pet adoption event, so I decided to go say hello to the kitties. There was one beautiful blue-gray, 11-month-old cat who caught my eye.

When I walked over to her, I immediately saw that she was different. She had GIANT paws with extra toes! I asked to hold her, and she grabbed onto my long hair as if to say, "Please take me home with you!" I'd spent the previous six months living alone, and I was ready for a furry friend. My sister and I decided that since polydactyl cats are sometimes nicknamed "boxing cats," we'd name her Moe after Muhammad Ali.

Once we got home, there were some major adjustments! She would open cupboards and drawers with her paws, so I had to baby-proof my house. I also learned that she had major separation anxiety and other behavioral issues stemming from the previous homes and situations she'd experienced. She had already been through at least four homes in less than a year. She would bite and could be totally crazy at times! She now sees a chiropractor and is doing so much better.

Today, she is completely happy, and half the time, she thinks she's a dog. She loves car rides, playing fetch with mini tennis balls, chewing flip-flops, and she'll even sit for a treat! She has been with me through boyfriends, sickness, and family crises, and she is the best sweetheart I could ask for.

She is my best little friend, and I've promised her that she has a home with me for the rest of her life, no matter what.

Happy cativersary to my sweet baby girl!
