My friend's cat was always having litters of kittens. One day, the mother cat was generous enough to bring one of her babies to my doorstep. The kitten was about four or five months old, and his mother was starting to get irritated with him, as mother cats sometimes do when their babies are ready to leave the nest.

One night, she left him outside my door and didn't return. She had gone back home without him.
My mom wasn't very happy with me for wanting to bring him inside, since we already had three cats, two of whom were his aunts, and a dog. She finally agreed to let me keep him as long as I paid his vet bills.
The poor boy was covered in fleas and also had mites and worms. I bathed him for days to get rid of the fleas and eventually used Frontline to eliminate them. We finally took him to the vet, where he was neutered and treated for both the mites and the worms.
My boyfriend wanted to give him a name from a fantasy game, but I started calling the little guy Baelfire, after a character from *Once Upon a Time*, or Bae for short.
Bae and I bonded quickly. He loved cuddling up to me and would come looking for me whenever he was hungry or simply wanted some affection.
Today, Bae is still just as affectionate. He loves getting attention, comes when I call him, and sleeps wherever his little heart desires.
I'm glad his mother chose me to take care of her baby, and I couldn't be happier. He helped me through a difficult time in my life, just as I helped him through his.
I saved him with love, and in his own way, he saved me, too.
