Ox was once just a number on a list in a South Carolina kill shelter, only days away from being euthanized. I stepped up to foster him, never knowing that he would eventually become the heartbeat of our small community in Ogdensburg, New York.

Ox did not just survive. He transformed.

After being pulled by a rescue group and finding his way to my home, he became a local sensation. He is more than a foster dog. He is a symbol of resilience.

Recently, our North Country community rallied behind him as he competed in the state finals of the Pet Lovers’ Choice Awards, where he held the number one spot for a time.

Though he narrowly missed the top three in that round, he has been granted a second chance to earn a spot in the national finals. Voting begins June 26.

Ox’s story is not about winning a trophy. It is about proving that every forgotten shelter dog can become a community hero.
