I have always had a cat in the house, usually more than one. All of our fuzzballs have been rescues, but Tumbles has the most dramatic story.

One day, a coworker was heading to a local restaurant where we were all meeting for lunch. On her way, she watched something fall off of a dump truck in front of her (on a highway at full speed). She didn't know what it was at first, but as she watched it tumble down the road and come to a rest on the center stripe, she realized it was a kitten.

She quickly pulled over and was able to pick the kitten up and get it to safety. There was a vet in the area, so she dropped off the kitten and then met us for lunch.

Lots of conversation took place, and by the time I got back to my office, I knew I had to call about the baby. The vet was my vet, and they said she was young and surprisingly uninjured. I asked them to get her ready, and I picked her up on my way home after work.

There was never any other name in play - she was Tumbleweed, which was quickly shortened to Tumbles. The vet estimated her age at 4 to 5 weeks and said her mom probably stashed the litter in the wheel well of the truck.

Today, Tumbles is queen-in-waiting in our house. She is never far from my side, although my husband is her special human.
