After putting our last rescue dog to sleep, we went to the local pound to look for another. While waiting for a room — the shelter was very busy — someone arrived to surrender their pit bull.

The woman was told the shelter was full and that the dog would be euthanized. She was in tears and could barely speak. My husband and I looked at each other and said, “We’ll take her.”

We went outside to get more information and to reassure the woman that her dog would be spoiled rotten. After tears and hugs, we took this 70-pound lap dog, Zara, home to her forever family.
