Bait Dog Discarded On The Side Of The Road Overcomes All Odds And Survives
It's hard to fathom that dog fighting still exists, but it's tragically prevalent today. Pitbulls are especially common victims of the "sport" and it's not uncommon for weak pitbulls to be used as "bait dogs" and then left to die.
One pittie found herself in that exact situation, but help arrived right in time to save her life.
As shared by We Love Animals, the pitbull was spotted by the side of the road in an area where dogs are often dumped. It's near a busy highway and isn't a safe place for dogs to be.
The dog was visibly skinny and Kati explained to the outlet that she knew they couldn't leave her there. The dog was terrified of humans, but she was determined to win her over.
Kati sat in the grass by the side of the road and threw treats at the pup. With the help of the treats and her husband, they were able to catch the dog and immediately noticed that she was in "really bad shape."
Kati and her husband drove the dog, who they named Robin, to the vet immediately and her condition was so bad that they didn't know if she'd survive.
The vet said Robin was used as a bait dog for fighting, but based on her wounds, she didn't fight back very well - which is likely why she got dumped in the first place.
Robins road to recovery wasn't smooth sailing. According to We Love Animals, she required emergency surgery that they didn't expect her to live through. After that, they discovered a flesh-eating bacteria in her skin.
Despite the setbacks, Robin proved to be a fighter and she refused to give up on life. She ended up being fostered by Kati, who fell in love with the dog's sweet demeanor and passion for life.
Despite her background as a bait dog, Robin loves other dogs and she got along great with Kati's rescue pups. She also loves people and just wants to show everyone love! How sweet.
In the end, Robin ended up overcoming the worst of her injuries and healed enough to start looking for her forever home. However, Kati wasn't ready to let go. So, she offered Robin a place to call home and became a foster fail.
We're so happy Robin got the happily ever after she deserves!
