Rescue Dog Born With Short Spine Overcomes All Odds Thrown Against Him
A dog born with a rare spine condition has overcome his shortcomings and found a life of love and acceptance as a foster fail.
According to GeoBeats Animals, Squishy was born to a backyard breeder with an incredibly rare condition known as short spine syndrome.
While Squishy can function somewhat normally, his short spine does cause him to have a distinct look and also causes some challenges, like with itching himself or bending down to eat.
Unfortunately, his breeders didn't feel comfortable selling him with his condition so they kept him hidden away for some four years until they decided to get rid of him altogether. At that point, they reached out to the Utah Animal Advocacy Foundation which gladly accepted the sweet pup into their rescue.
Through the Utah Animal Advocacy Foundation, Squishy was placed in a temporary foster home with a couple named Joe and Sally. However, the temporary home turned out to be not so temporary after all as the couple fell in love with Squishy and his unique looks and loving personality.
The couple started sharing about Squishy on social media, noting on Instagram that he's one of just 25 dogs with short spine syndrome.
Thankfully, they were pleased to say that "He is happy and plays normally."
Squishy has enjoyed the past several years with Joe and Sally and he recently turned 9 years old!
The couple shared about Squishy's birthday on Facebook, saying: "This last Saturday was Squishy's 9th birthday. We spent the day doing his favorite things. We did a walk around the neighborhood trail and Squishy got a new squirrel toy he loves. He even allowed LL Bean to lay by him on his favorite spot. Happy Birthday Squish!"
